Yoga Basics – Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward Facing Dog Pose) – Start in Child’s pose with knees about hip distance apart and big toes together. Take your hips towards your heels and your arms straight in front of you. Hands shoulder distance apart and fingers spread comfortably. Keep your hands where they are, inhale, shift to your hands and knees and take your feet hip distance apart. Tuck your toes and exhale lift your knees, taking your hips up and back. Press through your hands evenly. Straighten your arms and bring your ears in line with your upper arms. Lengthen the sides of your torso evenly lifting the hips away from the hands. Practice with knees bent and then slowly work the legs towards straight. Feet parallel and toes spreading. Stay for several breaths and then come back into Child’s pose.
